Pathways to Education Community Conversation

Blog post by Sarah Parks, April 11, 2013 On April 11, 2013 Megan Conway, the Interim Vice President Programs and Research at Pathways to Education Canada, and Maureen Thompson, a Consultant to Pathways to Education Canada, joined Windsor-Essex for a community conversation on place-based strategies for improving educational outcomes for young people. Pathways to Education helps youth in low-income communities graduate from high school and successfully transition into post-secondary education. P2P’s Education & Literacy Working Group Update

Report by Jean Foster, the chair of P2P’s Education & Literacy Working Group The Education & Literacy Working Group has two major goals which support Pathway To Potential’s vision and mission. The goals are as follows: 1. Increase literacy rates for all ages including working with partners to provide opportunities for lifelong learning. 2. Advocate for policies and integrated multidisciplinary programs that work to increase graduation rates. Volunteer Opportunity at Windsor Youth Centre

The Windsor Youth Centre needs volunteers to help finish painting before its grand opening on September 6, 2011. The Windsor Youth Centre will be throwing painting parties at 1321 Wyandotte Rd E, on August 13th, 16th and 18th from 9am till 6pm. If you are interested you can volunteer anytime during that period. Pack for Success Continues to Help Students

Pack for Success is a City and County initiative designed to provide new backpacks and grade appropriate school supplies for students in need who would not have access to these materials without this project. Over the last eight years Pack for Success has donated more than 16,450 backpacks to elementary and secondary students in our community. Again this year we are planning to distribute close to 3,000 backpacks.
