SUSTAIN ONTARIO FOOD CHARTER WORKSHOP

Access to healthy, fresh and nutritious food is one of our most basic needs, and one that most people take for granted. However, for those living with poverty, the lack of this basic need is a stark reality that has serious implications for many children, adults, seniors and vulnerable populations.

On behalf of P2P, Laura Tucker attended the Sustain Ontario Food Charter workshop last month organized by Food Matters Windsor-Essex. A Food Charter is a document that represents the vision and beliefs that a community values about food, nutrition and their food system. A food charter can support the increase for healthy, affordable and accessible food for all, while emphasizing education, agriculture and the environment. Those in attendance at the workshop reviewed the reasons for having a Food Charter, and identified the ultimate goal of a food charter specific to Windsor-Essex, and the resources that are already in place to support the development of a Food Charter.

P2P will continue to advocate for and support a Food Charter as a priority.
