City approves Seed & Feed grant funding support

On January 23, 2012, Windsor City Council approved up to $100,000 in one-time funding to support community garden expansion projects in Windsor-Essex County.

This initiative has been branded Seed & Feed and will provide one-time grant funding to eligible applicants who can demonstrate that their community garden project will provide fresh produce to people who may otherwise go without.  This will ultimately benefit the health and wellbeing of children, youths, adults and seniors in Windsor-Essex County.

Access to healthy, fresh and nutritious food is one of our most basic needs and one that most people take for granted.  In Windsor-Essex County, approximately 38,000 people live with poverty and many of these individuals and families do not have easy access to, or cannot afford to purchase fresh produce.
